Our Legacy and Impact

Established on January 25, 1943, Dr EP Lekhela Secondary School stands as a beacon of educational excellence and cultural significance in the Greenpoint community. As the first secondary school for Black students in the area, it broke barriers by appointing a Black principal, Mr. E. P. Lekhela, a visionary leader who believed in the transformative power of education and faith. Despite humble beginnings with limited resources, the school thrived through the dedication of its pioneering teachers and the support of local churches. Over the decades, Dr EP Lekhela has grown into a modern educational institution, nurturing generations of leaders, professionals, and community advocates. Our commitment to academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and community service remains steadfast, guided by our motto, ‘MAXIMUM AD ULTIMUM,’ meaning ‘to the maximum and beyond.’
Dr EP Lekhela Secondary School’s journey is a testament to resilience and progress. From its inception in a small village to becoming a cornerstone of education in Kimberley, the school has continuously adapted and expanded. Under the leadership of successive principals, the school has embraced change, moving to new facilities and introducing senior classes to meet the growing needs of our students. Our alumni have excelled in various fields, from law and education to healthcare and social services, carrying forward the values instilled during their time here.
